Things I do Instead of Working on the Computer
1. Read my classmates’ blogs
2. Read the comments to my classmates’ blogs
3. Read my old blog entries
4. Read my old comments
5. Find polls to vote on (I definitely need to spend less time on blogger)
6. Pace
7. Go on Wikipedia Tangents (I know they’re just trying to be helpful by making every other word a link but the temptation is too great for a procrastination addict like myself)
8. Keep a detailed log of the comments I make to other blogs (I actually did this last semester, I spent a great deal of time double-checking my records and making sure my handwriting was neat)
9. Write things in my planner which I have already done, just to have the satisfaction of crossing them out (probably not the point of having a planner, I know)
10. Create a mental to-do list; go over it several times as I pace around my room. As the hours tick by and I procrastinate, getting nothing done, I gradually eliminate items from the list until it is just the bare essentials.
11. Research competitive rabbit jumping (one of my favorite Wikipedia Tangents, apparently its popular in Northern Europe)
12. Pace
13. Sit at the computer, open a word document, open up the internet, check blogger, then turn around in my seat and watch TV for the next half hour
Looking at this list, I realize I have a serious problem with procrastination, and I’m not sure how I get anything done. Maybe I should it make my goal for the rest of my senior year to be more industrious, or I could do it next year…
It's a real thing! |
Kaleigh, this blog post was so funny, especially the picture! I as well find myself constantly distracted by the internet. For example, right now I should be working on government work, but here I am on blogger. I find myself incredibly distracted by stumbleupon. If you haven't heard of it, it's this amazing download that links you to different websites based on your preferences. But if you already have a problem with internet procrastination, I do not reccomend you look into it.
ReplyDeleteKaleigh, I have never heard of competitive rabbit jumping, but it sounds so intriguing! I too find myself compelled to wander the internet when doing research for a class or homework. My visits typically include facebook, with my personal favorite being the Harry Potter fan website mugglenet. Sometimes I’ll wonder on to progressbook, but I am currently on a progressbook strike, so that has not distracted me for awhile. Ultimately, technology helps us so much, but sometimes I feel that the hours I use frivolously wandering the internet surpass the hours I use for actual work.
ReplyDeleteThis is really funny! Sadly, I find that I share way too many symptoms with you. I kept a log on google docs last semester. Not only that, but there was a point last year where I would write everything I had to do in my planner and estimate the amount of time it would take to do each assignment. I would try to overestimate the times a little so that I would feel good if I finished it quicker. I do not do this anymore though. Now, I find that a site called reddit is extremely distracting. So many humorous links have sprung from it...
ReplyDeleteKaleigh, I too get really distracted whenever I have to do work on the computer. Also, I too go on wikipedia tangents! My favorite thing to do however, is play the wikipedia game with my sister if she is also on the computer. In case you aren't aware, the wikipedia game is where you choose a random website (for example- War War II) and you have to get to another random website that is not related at all to the starting website (for example- oranges). The hard part is you can only get to the final web page by clicking on the word links! It's a highly addictive game so I really don't suggest it if you want to stay on task.
